What Does An Osteopath Treat?
The short answer is an Osteopath treats the same conditions as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist! This includes everything from muscle pain and joint related issues through to sciatica and sporting injuries.
At the Geelong Osteopathy Group, our experienced Osteopaths regularly treat, educate and manage patients for a range of common musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. The cause and effect of these conditions vary significantly. Some may be niggly in nature and can respond quickly to the right care whilst others can be extremely debilitating and may require a comprehensive treatment and management approach.

Osteopaths are well trained in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
Osteopathy is one of the fourteen nationally registered AHPRA health professions. As such Osteopaths must undertake a minimum of 5 years of tertiary education and are comprehensively trained in musculoskeletal diagnosis, medical pathology, manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation.
Osteopathic treatment is hands on.
Applying techniques including soft tissue massage, mobilisation, stretching and joint manipulation, Osteopathic treatment can reduce pain and inflammation, release tight muscles and restore proper movement and function to the body.
Osteopaths take a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Whilst a GP referral is not required, Osteopaths support a multi-disciplinary approach and work alongside other health professionals.
